  • Greetings Paterson School Learning Community Members,

We are excited to share with you that David Paterson School is an Authorized IB World School! We received our authorization in August of 2021. The mission of the International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments, and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Our school mission statement: David Paterson School is committed to building partnerships with students, staff, parents, and the community to develop life-long learners. Through rigorous inquiry and empowerment, our learners will be equipped to become college and career ready and exemplify attributes and skills of a 21st century global citizen.

The Primary Years Program (PYP) includes the essential components: knowledge, conceptual understandings, skills, attributes, and actions. Our teaching and learning promote learner agency where our students have voice and choice and act using authentic, real-life tasks.

Please take notice of student agency (action, voice, and choice) that is taking place to promote global mindedness in our school, at home, in the community, and the world!

Together as a school learning community, we strive to be balanced, caring, communicators, inquirers, knowledgeable, open-minded, principled, reflective, risk-takers, and thinkers!

David Paterson School is proud to be an IB World School. Your participation and cooperation in our school transformation has helped us to make Hempstead Public Schools the first authorized International Baccalaureate District offering the PYP on Long Island!
