International Baccalaureate®
Primary Years Program (PYP)
-
Hands-on experiment activities provide an opportunity for scholars at Jackson Elementary School to engage in the learning process actively. By doing so, they can become inquirers, thinkers, risk-takers, and reflective individuals. These activities allow them to explore and investigate concepts, analyze data, and draw conclusions based on their observations.
Through a STEAM approach, scholars participate in activities that integrate science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. For example, coiling wire on a nail while following a model and referring to a booklet allows them to learn about magnetism and electricity in a practical and interactive way.
The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) framework is designed to provide a transdisciplinary curriculum that supports students' holistic development. The IB PYP emphasizes inquiry-based learning, where students take an active role in their learning process. Through hands-on activities, scholars can investigate and explore real-world problems, develop critical thinking skills, and collaborate with their peers.
Hands-on experiment activities are aligned with the IB PYP framework as they provide opportunities for scholars to be inquirers, thinkers, risk-takers, and reflective individuals. They allow scholars to explore concepts in depth, make connections across disciplines, and develop essential skills such as problem-solving, communication, and collaboration. Furthermore, hands-on activities help scholars see the relevance and applicability of what they are learning, making it more meaningful and engaging for them.
