What is your vision as an educator?

My mission as an art teacher is to develop and teach a sequential art program which includes the basic art elements/principles of design, art appreciation, visual awareness, and is fundamental to intellectual growth and creative self-expression. My role as an art teacher is to teach my students to take risks with their art, experiment with new media, and to think "outside the box" in new and creative ways. This type of divergent thinking encourages students to relate visual knowledge to other core subjects and to respond with originality, appreciation, flexibility and imagination. The Arts also provide countless experiences for all students to take part in their own learning by getting them actively involved in the tools and materials that create their artistic visions. Furthermore, the Arts provide an opportunity to embrace diversity and teach tolerance and compassion in learning about art from various cultures and time periods. My goal for each art project that I teach is to show my students that with some hard work and dedication, they can create and do amazing things! I hope to empower my students by helping to develop both their intellectual capabilities and the capacity to express their thoughts and feelings in a creative and expressive way.
