Welcome to Barack Obama Elementary School!
Welcome to Barack Obama Elementary School!
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):
Welcome to Barack Obama Elementary School!
My name is Mrs. Kelly Fairclough and it is with great pleasure that I serve as the Principal of Barack Obama Elementary School. This is my twenty-first year as an educator and fifth year as a building leader. I am extremely proud to be a part of this profession where we have the opportunity to educate young minds. I know for a fact that every student can achieve success with the appropriate support and encouragement. Therefore, at Barack Obama Elementary School, we make it our ambition to provide a safe, kind, and orderly learning environment for all students.
We are an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Year Program candidate school. It is the mission of IB to: “Develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.” Our students are learning how to be caring and critical thinkers, who impact their world. We will expose all students to a rigorous curriculum which focuses on cultures, family, communities, music, art, history, literacy, and mathematics.
In addition, here at Barack Obama Elementary School, we know it takes a village to raise a child. Therefore, we are proud participants in Governor Cuomo’s Empire State After School programs. Our students have the opportunity to engage in STEAM instruction: Science, Technology, Engineering (Robotics and Coding), Arts and Mathematics. This partnership also provides our students with the privilege of learning how to play soccer and the strategic game of Chess. Our After-School programs help to develop critical thinking skills and collaboration. At Barack Obama Elementary School, we also have After-School Clubs facilitated by our teaching staff. Our students have the opportunity to participate in the following clubs: Basketball Club, Student Government, Latin Dance, Math Club, Spelling-Bee Club, Yearbook Club, Pen Pal, and Drama/Theatre. We believe in providing all students with a holistic approach to education. With this in minde, we've collaborated with Adelphi University's Garden Vines program and with Medical Students at Hofstra University. Our first and second grade students learn how to plant and harvest fresh vegetables grown in our school courtyard. Our third and fourth grade students participate in the Healthy Living program designed by Hofstra University's Medical Students.
Finally, our greatest partnership is with you, the parent/guardian. Behind every successful child is a supportive parent/guardian. Please ensure that your child reads every day, that he or she completes all homework assignments and projects, and, most importantly, that he or she shares with you what is being taught and learned in school. I thank you for your continued support.
In Partnership and Determination,
Mrs. Kelly Fairclough,
Principal
Sra. Kelly Fairclough,
Directora
