Hempstead Union Free School District is pleased to share information about two exciting higher education opportunities available to adult learners through the SUNY Reconnect and CUNY Reconnect programs.
These initiatives are designed to help adults return to college and earn a degree while receiving significant financial support. Eligible New Yorkers may be able to attend college tuition-free, with assistance covering tuition, fees, books, and supplies.
SUNY Reconnect
SUNY Reconnect offers free associate degree programs in high-demand fields, including healthcare, cybersecurity, and advanced manufacturing. Eligible participants must:
- Be a New York State resident
- Be between the ages of 25 and 55
- Not currently hold a college degree
- Plan to study either full-time or part-time in an eligible degree program
The program provides a pathway to career advancement while helping address workforce needs across New York State.
CUNY Reconnect
CUNY Reconnect supports students age 24 and older who are returning to college after stopping out or enrolling for the first time. Participants may qualify for financial assistance through:
- Completion Grants
- Forgiveness Grants
- Retention Grants
- NYS Opportunity Promise Scholarship
Eligible students can enroll in one of more than 120 high-demand associate degree programs with tuition, fees, and books fully covered through the Opportunity Promise initiative.
