  • Hispanic Heritage Month: Cultural Day

    On Friday, October 14, 2022, Jackson Main/Annex celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month. However, we also celebrate those who come from other countries. It was a celebration of diversity.


    Artificial Intelligence in the Classrooms

    During the month of October, several third and fourth-grade classes participated in an Artificial Intelligence (AI) presentation by Brian Song to present artificial intelligence and his creation of mobile apps. Brain Song inspired scholars to inquire about AI and the creation of apps.
     
     

    Peace Walk: Indigenous Peoples' Day

    On Tuesday, October 11, 2022, we celebrated our first Peace Walk: Indigenous Peoples' Day. We honored Ms. Carolyn Brown who served in Hempstead Schools and retired last year. Ms. Sequoyah Diaz and Ms. Sanai Clifton from Shinnecock Nation was our additional guest and they shared their message with our scholars. After dismissal, the students went to meet them by the tree and asked questions.  We thank them for their participation. Mr. Lafayette Skinner, our own security officer at Jackson Main/Annex School, is Cherokee/Blackfoot was also acknowledged.


    Reading Buddies

    On September 30, 2022, Mr. Kemmet's sixth grade scholars walked over to Jackson Annex and read to Ms. Campanelli's first grade students. Although the weather was a little nippy, they shared warmth with each other!

    The Jackson Main IB PYP School 25 Books Campaign End of Celebration, took place on June 17, 2022. Scholars who completed reading twenty-five books during the school year, were invited to a book scavenger hunt. Thank you, Mrs. Levey for leading the 25 Books Campaign Committee for each year! Readers become writers and we hope you visit the local library, borrow books, and visit the Jackson Main e-Library and read books and research throughout the summer. 

    El fin de la Celebración de la Campaña de los 25 libros de la Escuela IB PYP Jackson Main IB PYP School se llevó a cabo el 17 de junio de 2022. Los estudiantes que completaron la lectura de veinticinco libros durante el año escolar fueron invitados a una búsqueda del tesoro de libros. ¡Gracias, Sra. Levey por liderar el Comité de la Campaña de los 25 Libros de cada año! Los lectores se convierten en escritores y esperamos que visite la biblioteca local, pida prestados libros, visite la biblioteca electrónica de Jackson Main y lea libros e investigue durante el verano.

  • Jackson Main IB PYP World School presented at Gandhi Birthday Celebration at Shanti Fund and Council of India NY, SUNY College at Old Westbury on Saturday, October 2, 2021

    Our fourth-grade student, Isaiah Isom-Jones participated at the Gandhi Peace Garden representing Jackson Main IB PYP World School at SUNY College at Old Westbury on Saturday, October 2, 2021. Mrs. Lee-Segredo and Ms. Finney was a part of the presentation, Fur Gandhi (For Gandhi in German).

    Jackson Main IB PYP students presented their artwork before a song, "The Rose for Gandhi". This was part of Unit of Inquiries: Who We Are and How We Express Ourselves. Learners Profile Attibutes were Inquirer, Open-Minded, Caring and Global Thinker. This project was supported by Mr. Brown and Ms. Costa. It is collaborative work by Mrs. Iadevaia and Mrs. Lee-Segredo. The students from the following classes participated: Mrs. Sanderson-Austin, Mrs. Bologna, Mr. Hudson, Mr. Ishmael, Ms. Lovett, Mr. Mata-Castro and Mrs. Roman.
