Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR)
Hempstead Public Schools is committed to supporting effective teaching, leadership, and continuous professional growth. The Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) is the District’s evaluation system designed to assess educator and administrator performance in alignment with New York State Education Department requirements.
Purpose of APPR
The APPR system promotes high-quality instruction and professional practice by providing meaningful feedback, encouraging reflection, and supporting continuous improvement. Evaluations are used to recognize strengths, identify areas for growth, and guide professional development opportunities.
Who Is Evaluated
APPR applies to instructional and administrative staff as defined by New York State regulations and collective bargaining agreements. Evaluations are conducted annually and are based on established performance criteria.
Evaluation Components
The APPR framework includes multiple measures of performance, which may consist of observations, professional practice rubrics, and other approved indicators aligned to state and district standards. Evaluation processes and timelines are communicated annually.
Support and Professional Growth
Hempstead Public Schools is committed to using APPR as a tool for growth and development. Staff receive feedback and support to strengthen instructional practices, leadership skills, and overall effectiveness.
