Summer Learning Activities

Hempstead Public Schools encourages all students to stay engaged in learning throughout the summer. Summer is a valuable time for students to strengthen academic skills, explore new interests, read regularly, and prepare for a successful start to the new school year.

Our Summer Learning Activities provide students and families with resources to support continued growth in reading, writing, mathematics, science, technology, and creativity. These activities are designed to be flexible and can be completed at home, in the community, or as part of a daily summer routine.

Explore More: Summer Enrichment Resources for All Content Areas

In addition to the grade-level Summer Learning Packets, Hempstead Public Schools has created a collection of additional summer resources for students to explore across all content areas, including science, social studies, the arts, and more. These resources are designed to support continued learning, creativity, and engagement throughout the summer months. We encourage families to explore these enrichment opportunities to help their child stay connected to learning in meaningful and enjoyable ways.

Reading Resources

Students are encouraged to read daily in any language. Reading helps build vocabulary, comprehension, critical thinking, and confidence. Families can visit local libraries, access digital books, and encourage students to discuss what they read.

Mathematics Practice

Students should practice math regularly during the summer to maintain and strengthen problem-solving skills. Activities may include math games, real-world problem solving, practice with facts, and review of grade-level concepts.

Technology and Digital Tools

Students may use district-approved digital platforms and online resources to continue learning. Families should encourage responsible technology use and create a healthy balance between screen time, outdoor activities, reading, and family engagement.
