Multi Tiered System of Support

The Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a proactive and systematic framework used in Hempstead Public Schools to ensure that all scholars receive the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and attendance support they need to succeed. Through MTSS, we identify scholars' needs early and provide tailored levels of intervention and support.

Core Components of MTSS

  1. High-Quality Core Instruction

    • Standards-based instruction for all scholars

    • Culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practices

  2. Data-Based Decision Making

    • Regular assessment and progress monitoring

    • Team collaboration using scholar data

  3. Three-Tiered Model of Support

    • Tier 1: Universal instruction and supports for all scholars

    • Tier 2: Targeted interventions for scholars needing additional support

    • Tier 3: Intensive, individualized interventions

  4. Collaborative Problem Solving

    • Involves teachers, administrators, specialists, and families working together

  5. Family & Community Engagement

    • Valuing family voice and partnership in every scholar’s success
