Instructional Technology Plan (ITP)

What Is the Instructional Technology Plan (ITP)?

The Instructional Technology Plan (ITP) is a three-year plan required by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) that explains how the Hempstead Union Free School District uses technology to support teaching, learning, and student success.

The plan ensures that technology is used safely, responsibly, and effectively to enhance instruction, improve communication, and prepare students with the skills they need for the future.

Why Is the ITP Important?

The ITP helps the district to:

  • Support high-quality instruction in all classrooms
  • Provide equitable access to technology for all students
  • Protect student data and privacy
  • Ensure technology systems are reliable and secure
  • Align technology use with district goals and state requirements

An approved ITP is also required by NYSED for the district to purchase instructional technology using state and federal funds.

What Does the Plan Include?

The Instructional Technology Plan outlines how the district will:

  • Use digital tools and instructional programs to support learning
  • Provide professional development for teachers and staff
  • Maintain devices, networks, and classroom technology
  • Use student data responsibly to support instruction
  • Follow all state and federal data privacy and cybersecurity laws
  • Ensure all students, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities, have access to technology resources
