Theater
The theatre and drama programs in Hempstead Public Schools continue to inspire and enrich the lives of students while serving as a vibrant cultural asset to the community. These programs provide students with increased opportunities to present, perform, dance, and act, helping them build confidence, creativity, teamwork, and communication skills. Through participation in school productions, students engage in meaningful artistic expression and develop a strong sense of pride in their work and their school.
The 2024–2025 school year featured two highly successful productions—Annie the Musical and Shrek the Musical—which drew enthusiastic audiences and showcased the remarkable talent of Hempstead students. These performances highlighted not only the students’ dedication but also the strong support of educators, families, and the community. Looking ahead, the 2025–2026 season promises more exciting opportunities with upcoming productions including Ebenezer Scrooge’s Big Hempstead Christmas Show! and the award-winning musical In the Heights. These shows will continue to celebrate student voices and cultural diversity while strengthening community engagement and school spirit.
The theatre and drama programs remain a vital part of the district’s mission to offer a well-rounded education. By investing in the arts, Hempstead Public Schools affirms its commitment to nurturing the talents of all students and building a stronger, more connected community.

SHREK THE MUSICAL, based on the Oscar winning DreamWorks film that started it all, brings the hilarious story of everyone's favorite ogre to dazzling new life on the stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre not a handsome prince shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won't shut up, a bad guy with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand...and his name is Shrek.
