Hempstead organization recognizes Dr. Patricia Garcia for becoming the district’s first Hispanic superintendent and for her educational leadership.
Hempstead School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Patricia Garcia was honored on May 20 for becoming the district’s first Hispanic schools chief and for improving the educational opportunities for district students during the Círculo de la Hispanidad 2011 Spring Gala.
During the award presentation, Gil Bernardino, the organization’s executive director and founder, commended Dr. Garcia and the Hempstead Board of Education for their efforts to institute new programs and initiatives in the school district this year and last year to increase student success.
“We know how hard it is to change a culture of a district,” Bernardino stated. “Dr. Garcia, together with the Hempstead Board of Education Trustees, is working toward making the Hempstead School District a district of which we can be proud.”
“The Hempstead Board of Education and I are working collaboratively to implement great changes in our school district, so that our students can succeed in their educational and professional careers and in life,” Dr. Garcia stated during the award ceremony. “I am truly honored to be one of the award recipients at this wonderful gala. An award such as this one brings me great joy as a superintendent, as an educator and as someone who truly values the importance of helping our students to excel.”
