Hempstead High School Class of 1986 alumna Paula T. Renfroe began her writing career as a contributor for Time Out New York magazine, and then she went on to serve as the managing editor of The Source magazine and as the lifestyle editor of XXL magazine.

Paula, whose work has also appeared in Vibe, Vibe Vixen, King, Rides and Hip-Hop Soul magazines, is now the editor-in-chief of the newly launched Juicy magazine. The Hempstead High graduate also co-authored her first book, “Textured Tresses: The Ultimate Guide to Maintaining and Styling Natural Hair” in 2004.  

The proud mother of two, who is also working on her second novel, is currently bracing herself for the empty nest syndrome as her daughter graduates from New York University and her son graduates from St. Francis Prep.
