and Saturday, April 28, 2012.
Students Perform With the Long Island Philharmonic
As part of its ongoing partnership with the Long Island Philharmonic, the district hosted a Music in Our Schools concert at Hempstead High School on March 22. The concert, which was led by the orchestra's Music Director David Stewart Wiley, featured instrumental performances by the district's elementary, middle school and high school students.

'An Evening of One Acts' Hits HHS
Hempstead High School Campus students showcased
their acting talents on November 19 and 20 during their presentation of
the campus's fall play, "Love…Disappointment…Reality…An Evening of One
Acts." The show, which featured a performance of “A Lonely Impulse of
Delight” by John Patrick Shanley, “Cindy and Julie” by Bruce Kane and
“The Right to Remain” by Melanie Marnich, was a part of the campus's new
and improved theater program.
Congratulations to District Director of Music and Fine Arts Angel Perez,
theater teacher Ms. Mazo and the actors, actresses, stage crew, and
organizers for presenting such a wonderful and entertaining fall play
for the Hempstead school community.
HHS Marching Band Performs at UMass Amherst
Congratulations to the Hempstead High School Marching Band for
being the only band from Long Island to perform in the University of
Massachusetts Amherst’s 27th Annual Band Day. As a part of the visit,
the band was able to showcase their talents alongside hundreds of high
school musicians from a host of northeast region areas. The district
also congratulates Music and Fine Arts Director Angel Perez and Marching
Band Director Mr. Coleman for this wonderful accomplishment.
Hempstead Students Perform with Our Heroes
Students showcase their musical talents with U.S. Marines during the All-Star High School Band of Long Island Concert in commemoration of 9/11
The Hempstead Public Schools congratulates Hempstead High School students Angel Figueroa, Elana Muniz, Alyssa Crawford, and Jesse Ortiz for participating in the Band of Long Island, Inc.’s All-Star High School Band of Long Island Concert on September 18. The concert, which was the first of its kind in the organization’s history, was held at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point in commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of September 11.
The 200-piece band featured a group of talented high school students from Nassau and Suffolk counties, as well as musicians from the United States Merchant Marine Academy Band and the Band of Long Island. Students Jesse Ortiz, and Alyssa Crawford also represented the district with a special distinction by performing as members of the first chair in this concert. As a part of the program, the students were also able to tour the grounds of the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
Hempstead High Orchestra Rocks Out With International Violinist Mark Wood

The concert, which featured performances by the Hempstead High School Orchestra and rock band Undefined, was held on April 5. A photo from the event was also featured in the April 7 print edition of Newsday.
Select Chorale Wins First Place in Prague Competition
The Hempstead High School Select Chorale won first place in its category during an International Choral Competition in Prague, Czech Republic on April 2. The chorale, which was the only one in the competition from the United States, defeated five choirs to earn the highest score in its category. The district congratulates the Select Chorale and Director Rachel Blackburn for their remarkable win and for representing the United States with such distinction on an international level.

Hempstead Students Featured in All-County Art Exhibit
Students districtwide recently displayed their artwork and creativity in the annual Nassau All-County Art Exhibition at Adelphi University’s Ruth S. Hartley University Center in Garden City. The exhibit, which was hosted by the Art Supervisors Association, honored 1,128 kindergarten through 12th grade students who have demonstrated excellence in drawing, painting, printmaking, computer graphics, photography and other two-dimensional visual art forms.
