Dear Parents, Guardians, Residents and Colleagues:
Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. The start of a new school year always brings a renewed sense of commitment to education to every member of the Hempstead school community. The Hempstead Board of Education, Central Administration, teachers and staff are ready to work diligently at making this new school year another academically challenging and productive year for our students.
I would like to take this opportunity to announce some of the changes in our staff for the 2011-2012 school year. Dr. Johnetta Hill is the new interim principal of the Hempstead High School Campus’ Senior College Preparatory Academy and Mr. Henry Williams will now serve as the principal of the Alverta B. Gray Schultz Middle School.
This is also an opportune time to highlight the progress that our district made during the summer months. Many of our ELA, math, science and social studies teachers dedicated their time this summer to improving education for our students through curriculum writing. This work will assist tremendously in our efforts to align our curriculum with the new core standards.
In between cleaning and maintaining our school buildings this summer, our Facilities Department also completed the replacement of the Hempstead High School Campus’ gym floor, as well as commenced site work to remedy flooding around the campus. All of the academic and building enhancements that were made this summer were truly a success, and I am confident that these accomplishments will assist in our pursuit of educational excellence in the Hempstead Public Schools.
As we begin the 2011-2012 school year, I believe it is imperative for us to remember that this year will bring many new challenges as we strive as a school district to provide “A Better Future for Every Child in Hempstead.” However, we must continue to remain steadfast in working as a unit to move our school district onward and upward. You have my sincerest commitment that this Administration will work tirelessly to ensure that the Hempstead Public Schools properly educates and nurtures the talents of every student.

Estimados Padres, Apoderados, Residentes y Colegas:
Bienvenidos al año escolar 2011-2012. El inicio de un nuevo año escolar siempre trae un renovado sentido de compromiso con la educación a todos los miembros de la comunidad escolar de Hempstead. La Junta de Educación de Hempstead, Administración Central, los profesores y el personal están listos para trabajar con diligencia para que este nuevo año escolar sea uno lleno de retos académicos y que sea productivo para nuestros estudiantes.
Me gustaría aprovechar esta oportunidad para anunciar algunos de los cambios en nuestro personal para el año escolar 2011-2012. La Dra. Johnetta Hill es la nueva directora interina de la Academia Preparatoria Superior de la Escuela Secundaria; y el Sr. Henry Williams será ahora el director de la Escuela Intermedia Alverta B. Gray Schultz.
Este también es un momento oportuno para poner de relieve los avances que nuestro distrito hizo durante los meses de verano. Muchos de nuestros profesores de inglés, matemáticas, ciencias y estudios sociales dedicaron su tiempo este verano para mejorar la educación de nuestros estudiantes a través de la escritura del currículo. Este trabajo
ayudará enormemente en nuestros esfuerzos para alinear nuestro currículo con los nuevos estándares fundamentales.
En medio de la limpieza y el mantenimiento de nuestros edificios escolares este verano, nuestro Departamento de Instalaciones también ha completado la sustitución del piso del gimnasio del recinto de la Escuela Secundaria de Hempstead, así como también se comenzó a trabajar para poner remedio a las inundaciones en todo el recinto.
Todas las mejoras académicas y de la construcción que se han hecho este verano fueron un verdadero éxito, y estoy segura de que esos logros ayudarán en nuestra búsqueda de la excelencia educativa en las Escuelas Públicas de Hempstead.
Al comenzar el año escolar 2011-2012, yo creo que es imperativo para nosotros recordar que este año traerá muchos retos nuevos al mismo tiempo que nos esforzamos en que Hempstead sea un distrito escolar que ofrece "un mejor futuro para todos los niños en Hempstead." Sin embargo, debemos mantenernos firmes en el trabajo como una unidad para impulsar nuestro distrito escolar hacia adelante. Usted tiene mi más sincero compromiso de que esta administración trabajará sin descanso para garantizar que las Escuelas Públicas de Hempstead eduquen correctamente y nutran los talentos de cada estudiante.
Espero trabajar con cada uno de ustedes para hacer que el año escolar 2011-2012 sea un gran éxito para nuestros estudiantes.
