Hempstead High School’s Charlene Lipsey named
Newsday 2008 Indoor Track Runner of the Year!
High school
All-American Charlene Lipsey was named to Newsday's
2008 Girl’s All-Long Island Indoor Track Team and
took home the honor for the Runner of the Year. Ms.
Lipsey placed third in the 800 meters at the
National Indoor Scholastic Championships held at the
NY Armory on March 16, 2009. Her time of 2:09.15 is
the fastest 800 meters ever run by a high school

runner faster this spring and has an outside shot of
qualifying for the U.S. Olympic trials. -

I am currently doing
well, in my senior year at Oswego. I was
recently reelected in the all campus
election for the Vice Presidency of the
Student Association. I won with 65.4 percent
of the vote. I am also working on some
community service projects through a
partnership our student government has
formed with the city of Oswego. The
government here is going great, we are doing
some really progressive things such as
trying to get our campus greener and pay the
members of our Legislative Branch. |

In terms of academic,
I would like to say that coming here was a
great decision and that Hempstead High
School prepared me very well for my academic
transition to college work and the demands
that it presents. Without dedicated
individuals who have played a role in my
academic development I would probably not
still be here today. |
